What is a blog?
A blog is a kind of website that is regularly updated with new or updated information.
A blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries (posts). Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page.
It started out as an online diary where people write about themselves and all kinds of stuff they can think of. Today, blogs mean different things to different people, and they use it for different purposes. We’ll talk about that later in the post. You can skip to that part by clicking this link: why start a blog?
Bloggers manage blogs. They create content, update existing ones, and equally promote the content on a blog.
Sometimes, bloggers also deal with some technical aspects of a blog like updating logos, installing plugins, customizing themes, and so on.
In essence, bloggers blog. They oversee blogs. They ensure that everything is fine on the front end, for visitors to the blog.
People blog for various reasons and to achieve different results. The decision to blog, I believe, is personal and you should start a blog because you WANT to. However, if you need a nudge, here are some reasons:
To document your life
You can start a blog to tell your story. To journal your life experiences. To keep track of your progress. To talk about things that matter to you.
That’s it. Start a blog to document your life.
To improve your writing
Writing is an art. And art only gets better with practice. Writing a blog is a perfect way to practice. By committing to a posting schedule, you can find the motivation to get your butts to work.
More than 3,000,000,000 searches are made every day on Google. Add that to the number of queries on other search engines like Bing and DuckDuckGo. People search the Internet every day for knowledge and information. Why not share your genius with the world and make the world a better place?
To share professional advice
People search the web for honest advice before making career choices/changes. Be their one-stop-shop for advice in your field. Talk about why they should make that career switch, the challenges in your profession, how to wade through and attain success.
To generate leads for your business
If you run a business, you can start a blog to generate leads for your business. You can attract people to your business through your blog. You can put up a lead magnet on your blog to get people to subscribe to your mailing list.
To increase brand awareness
Even if you’re not going to use your blog for leads, you can use it to up your PR game. You can publish customer testimonials, impacts of your CSR, employee stories, etc.
To host your portfolio
If you’re a writer, graphics designer, web designer, artist, musician and you freelance, your blog is the perfect place to host and showcase the projects you’ve done in the past. You can also attract new paying clients with your blog. Set up a nice portfolio website, promote your blog, show your potential clients you know your stuff.
