5 Best Places to Learn Photoshop for Free

Learn Photoshop for free

Last Updated on December 21, 2020.

There are a lot of places to learn Photoshop online for free. You can hop on YouTube and search for “Photoshop for beginners.”

While most of the results have the word beginners in their title, most of them are not for beginners or anyone who has no prior knowledge of the software. The videos are either about using a particular tool from its array of tools or how to make posters.

Those videos are great. They’ll teach you how to change the background of a photo or how to make greeting cards. But as a beginner, what you want to know is what tool can be used to achieve what result. Tutorials that take you from the very beginning, telling you about each tool and what you can do with them.

Starting with a tutorial that teaches how to change color saturation or how to make a portrait with texts will only confuse you. The tutors will be introducing all kinds of tools and brushes into the mix and you won’t understand why.

I must admit: if you spend enough time scouring YouTube, you’ll definitely find videos that’ll properly introduce you to the Photoshop software. But why do that?

I have compiled a list of 5 places on the Internet where you can learn how to use Photoshop for free.

Let’s go.

5 Places to Learn Photoshop for Free

1. Adobe Photoshop Tutorials

Drinking straight from the source. Adobe is the company behind Photoshop, and safe to say, is the best place to learn about the software.

Adobe has an entire section on their website where you can learn Photoshop. They have tutorials for both beginners and experienced users alike.

The very first video is titled Get to know Photoshop and introduces you to the software.

Go to Adobe Helpx.

2. Phlearn – 30 Days of Photoshop

Founded by Aaron Nace in 2011, Phlearn creates Photoshop, Lightroom, and photography tutorials. They have both free and paid tutorials to help you learn Photoshop and Lightroom and how to use them to spruce up your photos.

Phlearn has a free Photoshop tutorial series they named 30 Days of Photoshop. It’s not an email course or webinar, so you can access the tutorial videos anytime you like. You also don’t need an account to access the videos.

The videos are hands-on and include links to download the sample images used for each tutorial.

Go to Phlearn.

3. Udemy – Adobe Photoshop Complete Mastery Course Beginner to Advanced

Udemy is the Amazon of video courses. You can find video courses about practically anything on Udemy.

5. Photoshop Essentials

I’m reluctant to add this one because the tutorials are text-based. They’re written in the form of “how-to” posts, with screenshots to help you learn step-by-step.

One thing however certain is that you’ll learn how to use Photoshop. The website is true to its name; it’ll teach you the essentials of Photoshop.

You can also learn photo editing on the website.
