Best Cheap Web Hosts ($0.99 – $2.99) to Use in 2021

Cheap Web Hosts

Last Updated on March 13, 2021.

Let’s look at the best cheap web hosts on the market in 2021.

When you want to start a blog, one of the first things you need to get is web hosting. Web hosting takes your blog online and makes it accessible over the Internet. It “hosts” the content you post on the blog and makes it possible for your readers to see it.

While the domain name takes people to your blog, hosting presents the contents. Without these two – domain name and hosting – you can’t start a blog.

Now, you want to start a blog but want a host with great service at an affordable price; hence your search for the best cheap web hosts.

There are hundreds of hosting companies out there and sorting through all of them in search of the hosts with great service at the best prices can be a bit taxing. You have to check through many and then compare the features – ugh! That’s a lot of work, so we did the heavy lifting.

There are definitely more than a handful of these cheap web hosts, but here in this post are the ones we consider “best.”

Disclaimer: when you buy your hosting through some of the links in this post, I may earn a commission. I promise it’s at no extra cost to you.

What makes a “cheap web host?”

Before a web host can be said to be cheap, it means they offer you everything you need to get your blog running without having to pay for additional services. So in this post, we won’t be looking at just the price of the hosting packages, but also the additional services that come with them. We’ll also be considering their money-back policies.

In essence, a web host will only make it to this list of the “best cheap web hosts” if they offer alongside their hosting:

  • Free domain name
  • Free SSL Certificate
  • Free email services
  • Free CDN
  • At least 30 days money-back guarantee

It’s hard to find a single “cheap” web host offering all five, so 3-5 is acceptable.

The 4 Best Cheap Web Hosts to Use in 2021

Here are the best cheap web hosts on our list:

Let’s see what each has to offer and why you should consider using them to host your blog.

– Hostgator – Best Cheap Web Host

Hostgator - best cheap web hosts

Hostgator is my #1 recommended web host.

They have been in the business of hosting websites and blogs for more than one and a half decades and power over 2+ million websites.

With Hostgator you get stellar hosting and great customer support should you run into issues.

Definitely not the cheapest, but they offer you everything you need to get started right away. All of their plans come with unlimited storage to host your blog contents without worries of exceeding storage, unmetered bandwidth to accommodate any number of visits, and free SSL to protect your users. Hostgator will also move your blog for free if you’re transferring from another host.

What you get:

  • Free domain name
  • Free SSL Certificate
  • 45-day money-back guarantee
  • Free email accounts
  • Free transfer

  • Monthly plan: $10.95/month
  • 1-year plan: $50.53 at $3.95/mo
  • 2-year plan: $88.27 at $3.45/mo
  • 3-year plan: $105.35 at $2.75/mo

– A2Hosting – Fastest Cheap Web Host

A2 Hosting - fastest cheap web host

This is another cheap web host .

A2Hosting is the fastest cheap web hosting you can find on the market. They offer a really great service at a relatively cheap price.

Speed is very important to a blog. It is in fact a Google ranking factor. According to Google, a blog that takes more than 3s to fully render a page is slow. A slow blog frustrates users and a frustrated visitor will hit the back button without even thinking about it.

To give your blog a speed boost, improve user experience, and amp your SEO, A2Hosting is the host you should go with.

The only downside (which is why they come #3 in my recommendation) is that their cheapest plan doesn’t come with a free domain name. Either you buy a domain name separately or go for their Drive plan where you get to host unlimited websites plus a 2x speed boost.

What you get:

  • Free SSL
  • Free CloudFlare CDN
  • Unlimited transfer
  • Unlimited email accounts
  • Anytime money-back guarantee

  • Monthly: $10.99
  • 1-year: $83.88 at $6.99/mo
  • 2-year: $105.36 at $4.39/mo
  • 3-year: $107.64 at $2.99/mo

To compensate for the domain name, you get free unlimited email accounts and free CloudFlare CDN.

– GreenGeeks – Best Eco-Friendly Web Host

GreenGeeks - best eco-friendly web host

If you want a host that is both fast and cheap, with a free domain name, GreenGeeks it is.

GreenGeeks is yet another host with stellar service at a price lower than many other hosts in the industry.

When it comes to cheap hosting, GreenGeeks tick all boxes. Along with their cheap hosting plans, they offer a free domain name, free SSL, and plenty of other services that other hosts sell as additional services.

GreenGeeks will backup your blog nightly for free, give you unlimited storage, free CDN, and unlimited email accounts.

With 40,000+ customers and over 500,000+ websites in their portfolio, they definitely know their onions.

What you get:

  • Free domain name
  • Free SSL
  • Free CDN
  • Free blog backup
  • 30-day money-back guarantee

  • Monthly: $9.95
  • 1-year: $59.40 at $4.95/mo

– Hostinger – Cheapest Web Hosting

Cheap Web Hosts

This is the cheapest web host on the market. In terms of pricing, it beats all other hosts hands down.

With their packages starting from $0.99/mo, you can’t get this price anywhere else.

If you’re a freelancer that isn’t expecting anything more than a few visits to your portfolio website, this is the hosting for you. It is also suitable for a local business that is only looking to have a presence online.

Caveat: to get this juicy offer of $0.99/mo, you have to commit four years and buy a domain name separately. 1… 2… 3… 4 years upfront! But you can ask for a full refund within 30 days if you don’t like their service.

Going by our standards for the best cheap web hosts, Hostinger shouldn’t make it to this list, but this is too juicy an offer to overlook! Plus they offer free SSL, free weekly backups, and one free email account.

This looks too good to be true, but Hostinger claims they currently host websites, domain names, and emails for 29 million people.

What you get:

  • Free SSL
  • One email account
  • Weekly backup
  • 10GB SSD storage
  • 100GB bandwidth
  • 30-day money-back guarantee

  • Monthly: $9.99
  • 1-year: $35.88 at $2.99/mo
  • 2-year: $38.16 at 1.59/mo
  • 4-year: $47.52 at $0.99/mo

These are my cheap web hosting recommendations. Check their features against your hosting needs and budget and make your choice.

You may find other posts with as many as 20 recommendations, but here are my own best of the “cheap”.

What do you get from cheap web hosting?

You may be wondering if you’re sacrificing quality service for “cheap.”

The short answer is NO.

Here’s why:

While there are reservations for the word “cheap,” the realities are a bit different with web hosting.

Cheap hosting does not mean bad hosting. What you’re getting instead is shared hosting, one of the five types of hosting (others are VPS, dedicated, managed WordPress, and cloud hosting).

Shared hosting means shared servers. That is, a number of blogs are put on a server to “share” the resources. This way, web hosts can offer what we regard as “cheap hosting” by sharing the costs of the server among websites hosted on that one server.

Any limitations?

If you’re a small business owner looking to give your business an online presence, a beginner just learning how to start a blog, or a freelancer and just want to create a portfolio website, shared hosting is fine. Fact is, it’s what you should get since you won’t be getting tons of traffic just yet.

All web hosts mentioned in this post were carefully selected and have the infrastructure to power your blog without any major issues.

The only time you should start considering upgrading to more robust hosting solutions like VPS or managed WordPress hosting is when you start getting about 500 blog visits per day. Then your blog requires more server resources to serve 500 people a day and 15k people a month.

It also makes more sense to pay more to host your blog then, because increasing traffic means increasing revenue potential.

Which is the best cheap web host?

It depends on your needs.

If you want a host that gives you everything you need to get started immediately at a reasonable price, go with Hostgator. If you want a host with the best load time, A2Hosting it is, but you have to invest another $9 into a domain name.

GreenGeeks is the one with the most features. Besides free SSL and domain name, they’ll back up your blog, give you free CDN and unlimited email accounts. They’re green, too.

This one goes without saying: Hostinger wins price-wise.

After selecting your host of choice of host, you can check out my post on how to start a blog. I take you through the entire process of starting a blog – from choosing a niche to picking a great domain and setting up your blog to monetizing the blog.
